CROSS COUNTRY: Heintz earns all-confernece at Edgewood once again

Former Poynette High School athlete Christy Heintz finished in ninth place at the Northern Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships held over the weekend at Concordia University in Mequon. The finish earned Heintz first-team all-conference honors for the fourth straight year. Heintz finished with a new 6,000-meter personal-best time of 25 minutes, 3 seconds. Next up for Heintz is the NCAA Midwest Regional to be run on Nov. 14.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS - Saturday's performance for Kassie Vaness may not have been her best at the WIAA State Meet, but the Portage senior couldn't have been happier with the way her prep cross country career came to an end. In her fourth and final appearance at the state meet, Vaness finished in 34th place in the Division 2 girls race with a season-best time of 16 minutes, 0.2 seconds.

Lodi got TD runs from Justin Miller and Lucas Stronach in the fourth quarter to beat Prairie du Chien 21-7 on Saturday. The Blue Devils (10-1) advance to face Brodhead/Juda (9-2) on Saturday in a state quarterfinal game scheduled to be played in Brodhead.

The gameplan for the Rio football team this season called for its beefy offensive line to lead the way for its power running game. But because of injuries and other reasons, the team's five starting offensive linemen played together just once in the regular season, where Rio finished with a 4-5 record.

Leystra sacks leukemia, shines on the football field

CAMBRIA - All Kye Leystra could do was sit and wait, almost helpless, a child having to rely on his grandparents for help with the most simple tasks. The chemotherapy he endured since kindergarten made him too weak to even get up.
